Our second year of summer camp was just as fun as the first! Despite taking place during a massive heatwave, we had a great time riding, playing games, and learning lots about our horses.
Day 1
Our first day in the heat involved some bareback riding, labeling parts of the horse, and, of course, lots of popsicles!
Day 2
On day 2 of camp the kids were lucky enough to get to visit some of the dwarf minis with The Peeps Foundation at Brownland! Huge thank you to Josh Dolan and Rodrigo for having us! The day also involved great morning lessons, learning about hunter/equitation judging, and building a fort out of buckets the campers scrubbed.
Day 3
It was a packed day starting with a short group lesson and trail ride around the farm. After lunch, Dr. Matt from Tennessee Equine Hospital gave a demo on veterinary care including using a stethoscope, taking X-rays, and examining teeth with a speculum. We finished the day with an awesome horseless horse show organized and judged by Kelly Mullen.
Day 4
We ended the week with a morning full of team pony games, where the campers got to dress their ponies up in team colors and compete against each other. After lunch we played "Jeopardy" with all the horsemanship knowledge the kids learned this week, had ice cream sundaes, and did some more foot jumping while being sprayed with a horse.
A great week despite the crazy high temperatures and already looking forward to next year!
